Class 1/2 C – 2017 – 2018

Outdoor Learning

This term, 1/2C have taken part in outdoor learning with Sam Jackson. Over the course of 4 weeks, they have completed a number of challenges and developed fantastic teamwork and communication skills along the way.

Week 4 – In our final week of outdoor learning, we had another letter from Esmeralda. A flock of Firebirds had laid their eggs around the garden. However, they needed to be kept warm so that they could hatch. The children worked together to build a nest for their Firebird eggs. As a special treat, the children also drank hot chocolate and marshmallows around the fire circle.

Week 3 – This week Sam challenged the children to make some leaf prints. This involved using a hammer to bash leaves onto some white material to leave a print. The children were very careful and worked safely to achieve some fantastic results.

Week 2 – With the ground covered in inches of snow, the children were challenged to make a snowman. After that, they had to work in teams to build a shelter using rope and tarpaulin.

Week 1 – This week we had a letter from leader of the fairies, Esmeralda, to explain that the garden fairies were having a party. Of course, any good party needs food and drink, so the children made pizzas, leaf kebabs and cocktails using natural materials found in the garden.

Prickly Hay

Year 1 and 2 took part in two wonderful performances of Prickly Hay.

We are very proud of them all.

Science Investigation

Class 1/2C have been learning about different materials and their properties. They conducted an investigation to see which materials absorbed water and which were waterproof. They made a prediction based on their learning, and carefully carried out their investigation.

Shildon Railway Museum

Class 1/2C visited Shildon Railway Museum and had a wonderful day, taking part in craft activities, a tour of the museum, including the inside of the driver’s cab and of course a visit to the play area. We had a fantastic day and learnt a lot of interesting facts which we will now be using in our writing at school.
