Y3/4 Archive 2017 – 2018

2017 – 2018

January 2018 – Wind Road Boys

Our KS2 children have been working with Enter CIC as part of theie upcoming production of Wind Road Boys. This project has been organised and funded by the Mayor, Ian Machin. All children were involved in the inital workshops and from those a small number of children have been selected to take part in further rehearsals with children from other Spennymoor schools. The children had lots of fun in the sessions and as you can tell from the photos were superb actors. The final performnce will take place in Spennymoor Town Hall in March 2018.

Christmas Carol Concert

Anti-Bullying

During anti-bullying week, year 3/4 welcomed Natalie into school.  This year, the theme was ‘all different, all equal’.  Natalie came into school to tell us all about her life because she was born with spina bifida.  She talked about how her body is a little different and the challenges she faces but how she doesn’t let that stop her; from brushing her teeth to running the race for life wearing her splints.  Natalie kindly answered all of our questions and showed us her splints.  We were truly inspired to realise that sometimes things may seem hard but we shouldn’t give up.

New Homework – November 2017

We are thrilled to be trialling a new and exciting homework system with Key Stage 2 between now and the Christmas holidays. The aim is that the children find the homework more enjoyable, parents find the tasks and timescales manageable and most importantly, that homework can be a time for parents and children to work together.

All children in KS2 have a homework ‘Pick and Mix’ grid. The tasks are all linked to the topic that your child is currently studying in school and each task has a weighting of points linked to it. Between now and Christmas, we are asking the children complete whichever activities they like from the grid – the only rule is that by Christmas they must have completed enough tasks to earn at least 10 points.

An electronic copy of the grid can be found below:

Year 3 and 4 Homework

If you have any questions about the homework then please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher or Miss Bowden.

Maya Day

Our year 3/4 classes thoroughly enjoyed Maya Day. We welcomed our special visitor who taught us how to count to 10 in Mayan.  We also found out all about the honour of being sacrificed to the Gods and the 5 main ways people were sacrificed!  Each group was given a different sacrifice to act out. Finally, we were given the chance to try Mayan chocolate!

Meet the Teacher 2017
