Pirate Day 2014

August 14, 2015 by admin

On the 26th September 2014 we held our annual Pirate Day. Once again the children looked magnificent in their costumes!

We would like to thank everyone for their efforts. Our Pirate Day aims are to have fun and to raise money which allows us to fund visitors to the school, such as theatre companies, and to heavily subsidise visits.

Mrs Phillips organised various pirate themed activities across the school and it was certainly a memorable day!

School Council and Brass at Beamish

August 14, 2015 by admin

On Wednesday 22nd April, we took part in Beamish Museum’s ‘Old King Coal’ event.

The brass players performed and Mr Leighton and Mr Heron carried the school banner during the parade. On this occasion, the weather was also very kind! School council joined the brass players.

They also took part in the parade with our school banner and different activities related to mining, as well as different games from 1913 and stroking some ferrets!

Everybody was extremely well behaved and enjoyed the day.

Bishop Auckland Food Festival

August 14, 2015 by admin

This week, our School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) were lucky enough to work with the Bishop Auckland Food Festival Education Programme.

The children enjoyed a morning of food experiments and cooking challenges. They thoroughly enjoyed ‘erupting’ some of their concoctions, as well as making their own pizza’s to eat on the way home…I hear they were delicious!

We look forward to working with them again next year.

Judo Success

August 14, 2015 by admin

At the weekend Mae & Jake both fought at the BJC Open National Judo Championships at Kettering.

Jake competed in the boys under 27kg and won a National medal, coming third in a very tough group of boys. Jake narrowly lost to the eventual winner by a small,Yuko score.

Mae became BJC Open National Champion for the second year in succession, winning the Junior girls U32Kg category.Mae won four straight contests, winning the final on a judges decision in a very tough contest. This, on the back of winning the Northern Ireland open the previous weekend in Belfast.

We are very proud of the pair of them and hope they continue this success throughout the year.
