Welcome to Class 5 R – Mr Cummings

Welcome to our Class page. Here you will find important information about our Class routines, curriculum and general information. We will also keep you updated about the amazing activities we have been getting up to at school. Please scroll down to keep up to date with our class blog.

Introduction:

Hello, my name is Mr Cummings and I have the privilege of teaching class 5R this year!

We have had a fantastic start to the year in class 5R, with all children showing excellent behavior and a positive attitude towards learning. I have high expectations within the classroom and expect all children follow the rules that we produced within the first week as a class. I have been very impressed this so far!

Within school I am passionate about Maths, English, PE and PSHE. My own aim is to ensure that every child can be creative, independent,  confident and able to develop key life skills such as problem solving, communication and decision making.

Working alongside my this year is Mrs Walker, who has the same high expectations and teach the children for 2 afternoons per week!

PE Day:

Our class PE day is a Monday.

Please can children arrive at school in their kits, which should be appropriate sportswear, preferably black bottoms and a white T-shirt.

We kindly ask that your child does not wear earrings to school on this day and all hair must be tied back.

During the Winter months, children should also bring in a warm jumper/hoodie, as some sessions will be taking place outside.

Homework:

Children now have a homework exercise book where they will complete any homework set. This will be set on a Friday and will be due in on a Wednesday. This will be either maths or English based.

Children are also provided with a reading book which I recommend they read for 10 minutes daily. This is an accelerated reader book where they are required to complete a test on it when finished. Children can complete this at home or in school. A reading record is also sent home for if your child or yourself wish to write in it.

Children also have access to Timetable Rockstar’s which I recommend they go on 3 times a week.

Outdoor Education Workshops:

Here at our school we are committed to promoting outdoor education using our community garden. These sessions will be ran by Sam Jackson from Sc.Out.Ed. Below are the dates when class 5R will be taking part in these sessions.  On these days, children can come into school in suitable clothing and will need to dress appropriately for the weather.

9th December 2022

16th December 2022

6th January 2023

13th January 2023.
